Education

B.S. Brooklyn College M.S. Chemistry, Fordham University M.S. Physics, Hunter College

Experience

I taught chemistry and physics at the university and secondary level. I also tutored mathematics especially algebra at the secondary level. As a science major, I will be dedicated to make the subject as clear as possible. I also believe that science and math is not only interesting but also fun and will try to convey that to the student. My experience includes teaching physics and chemistry at the secondary level. I also gave talks on science at the Air and Space Museum in DC and the Northern Virginia Astronomy Club. As these subjects especially physics require extensive math, I feel I could teach math through basic calculus. I also worked for many years for the Federal government (the U.S. International Trade Commission) where an important part of my job was to explain difficult scientific subjects in a manner that was understandable to the layman. That, of course, will be an essential requirement for my tutoring philosophy for your student. I also want to explain to the extent possible, the importance of the subject not only to an understanding of the universe but also to the needs of society. I prefer to have students come to my home in Springfield, VA (my wife will be at home with me) near the intersection of Rolling Rd. and Old Keene Mill near West Springfield High School but if that is not possible, we can choose a public place like a library or a Starbucks. I believe that just to teach a student is not enough, you also need to make the subject interesting so that the student will be motivated to learn the subject on his own.

Hobbies

I am an amateur astronomer. I own three telescopes. If you haven't seen the night sky through a telescope you are missing something! After our classes, weather and other circumstances permitting, I may take out the scopes. In addition to science, I have a background in conflict resolution having taken courses at ICAR at GMU. I am currently working on the Middle-East peace process working with Israelis and Palestinians and American Muslims and Jews on what can be done to resuscitate the stalled Middle East peace process. I have an interest in music, folk and classical and I played the guitar for a while.
